So last weekend was the first (and hopefully not last) Berlin knits yarnfestival.

So much yarn to cuddle, think about and buy. I’m swatching and re-swatching and thinking about a Riddler cowl for some time now. The Riddler always was one of those Batman baddies I liked, totally strange and camp and over the top, just like the Batman erea I like.

And on saturday I found the perfect yarn for it. A lush green with little pops of brown and black, and hey it’s even from Berlin 🙂 It’s from Wolleverliebt and the colourway is Krokodil.

Waldhaus part 2

Posted on

Last week I finished the second pair of my “Das Waldhaus” socks for the friend who took the brillinat pics for the pattern.

In this post I talked about dying the yarn for the socks. After knitting up both versions I prefer the lower socks with the sprinkles. This yarn was dyed using the ball-method.
The upper one is really fun to dye and would look a lot better with different colours then trying to do a gradient one. For a good gradient yarn one would need a lot more skeins and dyes then I used. But I’ll try my hands on that method again for a rainbow or really colourful yarn.

Swatching

The really annoying part of designing and knitting my own patterns: I can’t blame anyone else then myself for stupid mistakes in the pattern.
Yesterday I found a math error (switched two numbers in my notes!) and thanks to that I had to frog, recalculate part of my shawl, made a new chart and swatch that chart.

It’s a play on a classic estonian waterlily with a mesh background.
It’d the last chart before the boarder. I only need 10cm more in the shawl to fit my umbrella.

But before I can finish the shawl I really need a new skein of yarn, my second one is running low:

And I thought I would need less then two skeins. Will be quite heavy now, hope I works as a parasol!

Gorgeous yarn

Yesterday I got the most gorgeous yarn as a birthday present.

It’s a 65% cashmere and 35% silk blend and I want to crawl inside a skein and just die of happiness.

Now I only need to find the perfect pattern for that lovely 200m of yarn 🙂
